THE HISTORY

of Southwood

Welcome to Southwood. Southwood was a private house built in 1941 by a well-known Halifax industrialist Albert Kitchen. Albert was Chairman of the board of Willson Lathes Ltd which manufactured metal works machinery and was based in Halifax.

Kitchen dearly loved his family home of Southwood, and enjoyed developing the grounds that guests still enjoy to this day.

Apart from being a private residence, Southwood has also been used a Classical Ballet School and from the late 1980’s the building has been owned and used by the Freemasons.

We hold two Wedding licences; The Albert Suite, seating up to 120 guests and an outdoor licence where vows can be taken under the pagoda which is situated within the gardens.

In addition to The Albert Suite, guests can use St Johns bar, which can be enjoyed throughout the day.

Alongside hosting elegant weddings, we also host, Awards Ceremonies, Galas, Charity Balls, Corporate Meetings and Events.
